Why the ColliganWebStore Never Would Have Happened Without FrontPage 2003
The new ColliganWebStore.com is live and I'm very proud of it. We'll be transitioning all of the old stores into this new store over the new few months using FrontPage 2003. The thing never would have happened without FrontPage 2003. Here's why:
Everything is done with Dynamic Web Templates. We used Dynamic Web Templates for every page of the site. The different stores have different looks (but all with a similar feel) and I can update the ads and "features" to the templates and quickly update the site as needed. Very powerful. This is the best looking site I've put together yet and I did it in half the time it would have taken me previously.
And the developer who developed the look and feel isn't a FrontPage user.
My HTML is cleaner than ever. Take a look at the source code for any of the pages at the site. Notice how clean (and white space free) the page are? Wow!
We now publish via FTP. Extensions were fine and I had no problem with them (and some of the server-side features they offered were well worth the effort) but now that we really don't need them for publishing any more, we don't use 'em.
Do you realize there isn't Webspace anywhere that you can't publish to with FrontPage now?
We sync work with others. I had a recent script need and my tech team made the change on the Web server. No problem, I just synced his changes back into my local copy and all was well. So clean, so easy, so simple ...
I can play nicely with everyone now.
Split screen view was mandatory. With as specific as some of the coding was here, there we dozens of times that I had to switch back and forth between Design and Code view.
