Just to prove that we aren't obsessed with MacMillan books, this one was written by a hotshot a Microsoft Press. Nice thing here is that it was written by someone who actually designs sites for a living, not someone who wrote according to a review guide. Good for the beginners.
Complete Idiot's Guide to Microsoft FrontPage 2000
Yes, they didn't mention FrontPageWorld.Com on the cover but it is still a great book. Never been fan of a book that calls me an idiot but trust me on this one - good content and great for beginners.
Teach Yourself Microsoft FrontPage 2000 in 24 Hours
I worked as Technical Editor on this one so I can tell you it gets the facts straight (and I appreciated the authors humor) but, well, I did have a few arguments about the outline. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good book, I just believe that they spent a little more time on some things than they needed to. Don’t look for scripts or add-ons outside of what is provided by FrontPage. In short, if you are looking for a good walk through of the program and intend on doing it all yourself, this just might be the book for you. Just keep in mind that there is more to the process than what the book provides. If you intend on working with a team in the collaborative process and taking your site as far as possible, you might want to look for something else. Maybe this book and another?
Teach Yourself Microsoft FrontPage 2000 in 10 Minutes
The lessons are quite effective as separate chapters and provide some of the better walkthroughs of the product I’ve ever seen. Good news - it explains quite well how to work with text, tables, graphics, lists, links, image maps, frames and the like. Bad news, as to how this all fits together into the bigger world of Web design - not so much. Don’t get me wrong – it is there, it just isn’t presented as well as it could be. Overall, a great overview of the product and what it can do, but very little towards what this means to the greater world of Web design. To their credit, just how much of that could you expect in 10 minutes? It is a great place to start however and you can’t beat the price.
